The Detective is a quest added by Fallout Who Vegas. It features the player posing as Scotland Yard to solve a murder.
Overview[]
The player receives a distress call from Greystone Hall about a murder. The player then has the opportunity to investigate the crime, question suspects, and accuse the real killer.
Walkthrough[]
- A Summons has been Intercepted for Scotland Yard. Visit Greystone Hall...: Greystone Hall will automatically be added to the TARDIS NavCom when the player receives their message. Upon arriving, the butler will approach the player and inform them of the murder, and suspects.
- Identify the Murderer by Accusing the Correct Suspect: The player only gets one chance to catch the murderer, as if they accuse the wrong suspect the murderer will flee and the quest will fail. The player will have the opportunity to ask each suspect where they were at the time of the most recent murder and study their reaction. The identity of the murderer is randomly assigned at the time of the first murder to happen after the player arrives at Greystone Hall.
Without Xoanon's Addon Installed: The murderer can be identified by investigating their alibi. Innocent people will leave evidence of their alibi, e.g. if they claimed they were eating in the drawing room, then food will appear in the drawing room to support their claim. The murderer will never have left evidence as their alibi is false.
With Xoanon's Addon: The murderer can be identified by watching the eyebrows of the suspect as you ask them about their activity. Innocents will frown when being asked about the murder, whereas the murderer will not. If the player accuses the correct suspect, they will reveal themselves to be an Auton and flee. - Search for Clues as to the Fugitive Auton Duplicate's Whereabouts: The player can talk to the butler again and ask for the murderer's room to be unlocked. In this room, the player will find plans for a transmitter and the schematic for Anti-Plastic. The transmitter plans point the player to the roof and the butler will again unlock access when asked.
- Defeat the Auton Duplicate: The Auton Duplicate must be fought on the roof of Greystone Hall and defeated. Additionally, the player must destroy their transmitter to prevent further attacks.
- Talk to the Butler: When the player returns to the lobby of Greystone Hall, they can confirm with him that the case is solved and the rest of the guests are safe. The butler will then leave to answer a knock at the door from the real Scotland Yard and the player can take this opportunity to leave.
Trivia[]
- There is sometimes a bug where the murderer flees before the player has the opportunity to accuse anyone. This can be resolved by reloading a save from before the player originally enters Greystone Hall.
- There can sometimes be a bug if the player accuses the wrong suspect and fails the quest, where the quest scripts and further murders still happen. This can lead to increasing amounts of lag within the player's save file. The only fix for this is to load a save from before the player failed the quest and accuse the right suspect.
